Shincheonji Church of Jesus's 'Visiting Doctor Program’ for foreign laborers

Shincheonji Church of Jesus is taking the lead in donating and delivering hope to marginalized neighbors. For last 30 years, the church has endeavored to carry out the role and responsibility of the church everywhere in local society. Especially regarding a 'Bible-centered faith' as their highest value, every member vigorously volunteers to perform the love of Jesus.

Volunteer group established six core focus areas

Aided 103139 alienated and vulnerable people

Painted murals in 250 locations in 23 cities

Provided medical & translation services to foreign laborers

 

This year, Shincheonji Church of Jesus once again gave aid to the marginalized, and provided services in diverse fields including culture, art, environment, social welfare, encouragement of learning, etc. for the development of local society. The social dedication of Shincheonji Church of Jesus has been summarized below.

6 Core Volunteering Initiatives Shincheonji Volunteer Group’s core initiatives are as follows. The 'Visiting Doctor Program' to check and care for the health of members of the marginalized sector of society as well as foreign laborers in South Korea 'Wall Story,' for the renewal of aging walls into brilliant murals 'Patriotism and Peace,' cultural volunteering to promote the spirit of patriotism in the country A culture support program for the elderly, 'Centenarian Beauty' 'Pink Lunch Pack,' to deliver a healthy diet through lunch boxes to the marginalized people in society 'Nature Be Green,' an environmental protection and cleaning program.

 

A Total of 103,139 Beneficiaries This Year The number of people that have benefited from Shincheonji Volunteer Group in 2017 totals 103,139. The volunteer group mainly works for people in the lower and neglected classes, giving love to the handicapped, foreign laborers, isolated elderly citizens, teenagers and children left to take charge of their households, farmers and fishers, Korean War veterans, students of all ages, and so on.

Number of Members in Shincheonji's Volunteer Group: 62,331 The volunteer group produced 62,331 volunteers this year. Members throughout the country run projects and periodic volunteer programs on a weekly/monthly basis, and among them more than 50000 members participate weekly while approximately 10,000 volunteer part-time.

6699 Days of Volunteering This Year Shincheonji Volunteer Group carries out its varied weekly activities concurrently in every region. A tally of only days spent volunteering results in a total of 6,699 days (collected sum from each region/field) in 2017 were spent; in terms of years, that is a total of 18 years.

 

Awards Received: 55 The number of awards received by the group reached 55 in 2017. The nationally distributed group is credited for local development, promotion of welfare, fostering of patriotic spirit, etc. and was awarded as such by the local communities and civil organizations.

 

11 Other Fields of Volunteering There are as many as 11 fields in which Shincheonji Volunteer Group volunteers, separate from its six core initiatives. Current fields in which it is active include: Senior Welfare Care of People with Disabilities Care of foreigners and multi-cultural families residing in Korea Support for members of the vulnerable and isolated in society Providing help to rural communities Disaster Recovery Blood Donations Support for Patriotic & War-veteran Associations Regional Development Public Service Campaigns Environment Conservation. Shincheonji Volunteer Group is expanding beyond the marginalized population into areas such as cultural activities, public campaigns, and local development.

Shincheonji Volunteer Group Illuminates World with 165km of Murals Painting murals is the one of core initiatives of the group. It is recognized for vitalizing cities and renovating rural scenery through beautiful paintings applied to shabby, dull walls.

Shincheonji Volunteer Group has painted a total of 165 kilometers of murals in the last 5 years. This is the lineal distance from Seoul to Nonsan. The paintings are praised by citizens for being a positive change to the urban and rural atmosphere and revitalizing streets, helping to energize the local economy. According to the group the painting began in earnest in 2013 and since then, a total 165km of murals consisting of 596 paintings has been completed as of September 2017.

 

Mural paintings were done in 250 locations total, and Shincheonji Volunteer Group 'mural villages' were created in 23 cities across the nation. For this 25,000 volunteers, local residents, and donators of talent joined in. This year a total 1.13km of murals was painted in 28 cities in Korea, receiving much from appreciation from local residents.


Shincheonji Volunteer Group members run projects and periodic volunteer programs on a weekly/monthly basis.

"Visiting Doctor Program" for Foreign Laborers Shincheonji Church of Jesus provides medical support annually for laborers from overseas with its 'Visiting Doctor Program.' More than 1000 foreign laborers in 25 regions were invited, consulted, and treated. It is especially popular in cities with large foreign laborer populations, such as Ansan, Suwon, Pyeongtaek, Incheon, Gwangju, Busan, etc.

 

The 25 service locations where Shincheonji Church of Jesus and the Shincheonji Multicultural Center ran this program were filled with foreign laborers from China, Vietnam, the Philippines, Cambodia, etc. 250 medical volunteers including doctors, doctors specializing in oriental medicine, dentisits, pharmacists, nurses, physical therapists and university students in medical school came together in response. Another 2000 people including interpreters of English, Chinese, Vietnamese, Nepalese and other staff also assisted.

 

Global Tally of Over 20,000 Students Who Completed a Bible Study Course This Year To join Shincheonji, one must pass a graduation exam after a 6 month Bible study course. In 2017, Shincheonji Church of Jesus produced more than 20,000 graduates globally, accelerating its growth.

 

Shincheonji Church of Jesus began in March with a graduation ceremony of 2,000 students of the John tribe of the Seoul·Southern Gyeong-gi Province. In April the Los Angeles Church in the U.S.A and in May the Matthias Tribe of Daejeon·Chungcheong Province and the Thaddeus tribe of the Daegu·Gyeongbuk Province produced 5,000 students. This was followed by 9000 total graduates in June from the Busan-James Tribe and Andrew Tribe of the Busan·Ulsan·Gyeongnam province·Jeju Isalnd regions, the Thomas Tribe of the Jeonbuk province, the Peter Tribe of the Gwangju·Jeonnam Province, and the Phillip tribe of the Gangwon Province.

 

After this, last month the Bartholomew Tribe of the Seoul·Western Gyeonggi Province, the Matthew Tribe of Incheon, and the Seoul James tribe of the Seoul·Eastern Gyeonggi Province produced 3,500 students. This month, 4000 students from the Matthias Tribe of Daejeon·Chungcheong Province, John Tribe of Seoul·Southern Gyeong-gi Province, and Simon Tribe of Seoul·Northern Gyeonggi Province await graduation.

 

Shincheonji Church of Jesus Shincheonji Church of Jesus was established on 14 March 1984. It is headquartered in Gwacheon (of Gyeonggi Province) and operates approximately 100 churches all over the world. Its initial number of 120 members in 1986 has dramatically skyrocketed to over 200,000 as of 2016. The name "Shincheonji{신천지(新天地)}" is an acronym for "New Heaven New Earth" in Korean, which refers to "a new tabernacle and new believers." Shincheonji Church of Jesus operates 400 Zion Christian Mission Centers in 32 countries where the entirety of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation is taught free of charge.
