[Daily Cheonji] “CCK must cease its groundless slandering of Shincheonji Church."

“We urge the Christian Council of Korea (CCK), symbolic of a corrupt religion, to break apart!" shout the elders of Shincheonji Church

Participants, comprised of the elders of Shincheonji Church of Jesus the Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony (Shincheonji Church, the chairman Man Hee Lee), demonstrate with a banner reading ’Protest Rally and Official Announcement against Corruption of CCK’ in front of the HQ of the Christian Council of Korea (CCK), Jongno-gu, Seoul, on the afternoon of July 12th.

“We, church elders, discovered for ourselves that the rumors circulated throughout society about Shincheonji Church were untrue. They were misunderstandings and baseless claims. We do not understand why the Christian Council of Korea (CCK) hates Shincheonji Church, which teaches the true meaning of the Bible and the way to live a moral Christian life."

The elders of Shincheonji Church of Jesus, the Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony (Shincheonji Church), who originally belonged to this denomination, pled to make the truth known through a press conference pushing for ‘strong condemnation of CCK and a meeting to push for its destruction’ in Jongno on 12th July. About 100 Shincheonji Church elders chanted “CCK must disband!” and “CCK, stop lying and stop teaching false doctrines.”

The elders of Shincheonji Church of Jesus the Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony (Shincheonji Church) present their argument on the issue of corruption within the CCK that involves church tradition, coercive conversion programmes and illegal elections in front of the HQ of the Christian Council of Korea (CCK), Jongno-gu, Seoul, on the afternoon of July 12th.

They raised their voices, exclaiming “CCK maliciously defames Shincheonji Church without any Biblical grounding” and “Stop using your power, authority and lies to prevent Christians who are seeking the truth from moving to Shincheonji Church."

The elders of Shincheonji Church asserted: “We served as elders of the former churches we attended and moved to Shincheonji Church because we followed the word of God. Having witnessed it ourselves in Shincheonji Church, we discovered that the rumors about Shincheonji Church and the doctrines taught by pastors were complete lies.”

Moreover, the elders criticized pastors of the faith, maintaining that “The reality within the Korean Christian community is that people blame their pastors, and Christians leave their churches due to immoral behavior and false claims. Also, CCK must face facts and ask themselves why people are leaving their churches.”

In particular, they pointed out that the consequences resulting from human rights violations towards Shincheonji Church members have become a serious issue as coercive conversion programmes, initially founded by a CCK counter-cult committee involving kidnap and confinement, have now spread nationwide.

Kim-In Chul, who identified himself as a victim of the coercive conversion program, said, "Thousands of families have been divided because of this coercive conversion program run by CCK. CCK is spreading baseless rumors and holding counter-cult seminars to prevent their congregation members from leaving. And they are also deceiving Shincheonji Church members’ families into kidnapping and confining them through these coercive conversion programmes.

Cho Gi Jae, one of the Shincheonji Church elders, said, “The elders of the churches that belong to CCK, who are the pillars of their churches, must face the reality of a corrupt Christian society in Korea. As elders who believe in God, let’s not turn away from the truth, but together take steps forward to reform these corrupted churches.”

After the press conference, the elders from Shincheonji Church tried to deliver their statement to CCK officials after the press conference, but were unable to do so due to the absence of CCK representatives.
