Daegu & Gyeongbuk Shincheonji Multicultural Center Experiencing Boat-Riding ‘Daefrica’ in Nakdong River

About 95 foreigners had fun with ‘Daefrica’ rafting



▲ Daegu & Gyeongbuk Shincheonji Multi-cultural Center hosted the event experiencing boat-riding called ‘Meet Nakdong River’ which people can experience the natural environment of the country at Dalsungbo of  Nakdong River on 22nd of July. Foreign participants enjoyed rafting. 


Daegu & Gyeongbuk Shincheonji Multi-cultural Center(Daegu & Gyeongbuk SMC) held the event called ‘Meet Nakdong River’ for local foreign people in Daegu, which is given a nickname of ‘Deafrica’ that is combined with Daegu and Africa due to its extreme heat wave, on 22nd of July. 

This event was planned for foreign workers doing hard work far away from home to soothe nostalgia for their homeland and to help them to adapt to our society well through understanding regional culture. 

Total of 125 people attended  that day, including 95 foreign workers from 10 countries like Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Cambodia and etc., SMC’s teachers and volunteers at Dalsungbo of Nakdong River. They enjoyed many programs such as rafting, water safety education, recreations and etc. chanting “We are one”, transcending their race, nation, religion.

Pahm Ti Zin (Female, 24) from Vietnam told that she didn't know it was this hotter in Daegu than Vietnam and she was finally feeing the nickname, Daefrica(Daegu+Africa). And she also thanked Daegu & Gyeongbuk Shincheonji Multi-cultural Center by saying that she had so much fun with SMC teachers who always volunteers for foreigners.

Mr. Seo, the director of Daegu SMC, said that this event was aimed to introduce Nakdong river, one of the greatest nature in Korea, and make precious memories of Korea to foreign workers who are tired of their hard routine here in Korea. He added that SMC is planning to hold more events that promote Korea to foreigners through experiencing the beautiful nature and culture of Korea.

Daegu SMC was inaugurated in February 2014 and has been operated in the form of talent donation from 15 professional instructors who teach Korean, taekwondo, guitar, ocarina and etc. Besides this, it is actively operating in Gumi and Pohang. Around 130 foreigners from 13 countries including Myanmar, Uzbekistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Vietnam and so on, enrolled in the class of SMC and about 30~40 students attend Korean culture classes every week.
