About 130 senior residents in Dong District invited to the Samgyetang-sharing event
held at Andrew Tribe’s Training Institute enjoy the Korean dish Samgyetang.

The ‘Sangyetang Day of Love’ event was held in Andrew tribe’s training institute with local senior residents in Dong District, Busan, on August 9th, two days before ‘Malbok’ (the last ten days of the Korean summer).

At the event, about 130 elderly residents living near Bumil neighbourhood, Dong District, Busan, rejuvenated themselves from the hot weather.

Seul-gi Jae, branch manager of Shincheonji church’s Andrew tribe greeted guests, saying, “We are hosting this event to create an opportunity to be together with local residents and seek ways to live in even better harmony.”

Members of Andrew tribe’s church treated senior guests to homemade Samgyetang, as they engaged in discussion with them.

Senior residents had especially big smiles watching the children’s choir and band performances, as if watching their own grandchildren, and gave them a big round of applause in what was a very friendly atmosphere throughout.

In addition, ‘The Silver Art Troupe’ of Dove Elderly University gave a performance in return for the invitation from Shincheonji Church that brought local residents and Andrew tribe’s church members together.

Yeonggeoun Whang, the principal of Dove Elderly University, said, “Religion is based on the spirit of love for one’s neighbor and country. It is right that we treat local senior residents with Samgyetang to nourish the soul and improve harmony in society.”

In addition, they offer a service called ’Beautiful senior, Bravo life!’ that provides senior residents with haircut once every two months in a community hall in Cheongdo.

He added, “I hope that local residents will warm to the people in our Training Institute and strengthen bonds between them through events like this.”

Geunja Lee (Female, 78, Bumil Neighborhood) said, “the children are lovely and the people from the Training Institute looked youthful. I was hesitating to come here, but I had a lot of fun and would like to be invited again”

Meanwhile, Shincheonji church’s Andrew tribe carries out various volunteer initiatives in Busan, such as Blood Donations, Door-to-Door Healthcare, Wall-Painting Stories with Hope, Sharing Winter Kimchi, Clean-up of Gwangalli Beach and Haircutting services.
